REALLY like the "walk away" idea, and the idea of it becoming habit.

We've worked the respect thing too, but some of your points expand on what we have done. Forwarding link to my wife for later discussion now...

Re: Parenting Tip #1: Walk Away

Thx Wendy! Good stuff. Love the rewind thing. Never heard of John Rosemond, will look him up.

Re: Parenting Tip #1: Walk Away

I have a "rewind" technique with Katharine. If she doesn't make eye-contact and in a clear, polite voice express herself, I say, "Rewind, try again." It gets the point across to her that I have no intention of responding until it is communicated in a certain way. Another piece of advice if you live in a multi-level home - I do not answer any question posed to me by someone I cannot see. Cuts down on the yelling :) I very sweetly say, "Katharine, I need to see your face to hear your words correctly." John Rosemond came to our school this past weekend. I heard he was fantastic, but I missed it. Have you read his books? I can only assume healthy eating is part of it since everyone emailed me the next day for the names of the things I feed Lily. They mocked me the day before!

Re: Parenting Tip #1: Walk Away

thx man.

Re: Parenting Tip #1: Walk Away

what a great idea! i'm definitely putting it in my arsenal for the future. way to go dewde!
